French Bulldog

Though the name of the French Bulldogs indicate that they must have originated in France but the Americans and English share a larger portion of the credit. This is said that this dog was a specialty of England as they were known as the English bulldog.

But the lace workers of England took them as they went in search of work in France. The dogs were liked there and the number of members in their community increased gradually and the latest breed of bull dog became popular as the French bulldogs.

The distinct feature in the body of the French Bulldogs is their bat like ears which are wide at the base and round at the top and erect at the same time. Their head is large and square shaped.  These dogs are quite muscular and show a stout structure.

Their body is shaped like a pear which is narrow at the back and broad at the shoulders. Their eyes are dark and large and have under bites. These dogs are naturally short and can weight between 16 to 24 pounds. The maximum attainable height of the dogs is 12 inches. But they have a tendency to gain weight easily.

The nature of these dogs is quite lovable and mischievous. They often make mistakes playfully and act in a funny manner when scolded. They can make good companions for human beings and other pets. But they are generally extremely loyal to one single person.

The male members of this species can be somewhat aggressive at times. If you keep them lonely in an empty house they will not be happy nor will they live long as they need companionship. They can be trained like other dogs and like to get appreciation for good behavior and training results.

As a matter of fact they are better pets for the grown up children than the small ones. They can act like predators to small animals like rat etc.

The general; health problems that is observed in them are respiratory or eye related problems. They cannot get along with extreme temperatures and often get heat strokes if left in extreme heat. Hence they are not really outdoor dogs.

The French bull dogs have heavy body and they find it really tough to swim. They need minimum exercise and balanced diet so that the body weight remains under control. They make loyal and jolly companions for all types of people.
